Bed
This
king-size bed was made from solid English oak
(West Country) with pine slats to support the mattress (2m wide and
2.2m long). The mattress stands 600mm from the floor.
Construction
The posts
were made from 100mm square oak which stand 1220mm at the head and 920mm
at the foot. The posts were chamfered. 22mm thick oak was joined, shaped
and glued into routered grooves in the posts to form the head and foot
boards. The sides of the bed were bolted to the head and foot boards,
allowing dismantling for transport.
Finish
The oak
was finished with pure beeswax in turpentine.
Bedside
tables
The tables
were constructed from solid English oak
as a pair to compliment the bed.
Construction
The overall
height is 850mm and the table top is 450mm square. They were constructed
using multiple mortice and tenon joints, a 25mm thick top and 50mm thick
frames. A shelf and cupboard with push-release catch were incorporated
into the design. The side and door panels of the cupboard were constructed
from 10mm thick oak and the door frame from 50mm wide and 20mm thick oak
and mitred. The exposed part of the frames were chamfered.
Finish
The
oak was finished with pure beeswax in turpentine.
